Since its founding in 1973, our chapter has helped restore miles of Midwest streams and rivers and surrounding habitat through both our financial support and thousands of volunteer hours. Our members have shared the TU conservation mission with over 4,000 Trout in the Classroom middle and high school students and over 800 youth fly fishing class participants. We have also provided staff and financial support to the annual Illinois TU Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing camp on the banks of Michigan’s Au Sable River where our mission is to develop the next generation of coldwater conservation advocates among young men and women while providing a rigorous introduction to the sport of fly fishing.
Volunteers are needed to make these commitments happen. The Conservation Committee is looking for members who do not serve on the board of directors and are interested in leading or supporting an event. If you’d like to be on the Conservation Committee, contact Dave Carlson, Conservation Committee Chair. The committee meets by phone conference calls each month, so location should not be an issue for ongoing participation.
