Trout-in-the-Classroom Trout Release Field Trips – Volunteers needed

May 5 - May 9

During the week of May 5 thru 9, OBTU volunteers will be mentoring students from our Trout-in-the-Classroom Schools on field trips to release the trout they have raised in their classroom tanks into a stream.  Students (along with their teachers & chaperones) from each participating school are bussed to the stream on their scheduled date where we meet them.  Mentors drive on their own to the stream site and we make an effort to organize ride sharing where practical.  OBTU volunteers lead the students through an entomology survey, chemical testing & analysis of the stream water, measurement of the stream flow, and an organized release of the trout.   Each student is provided the opportunity to release one or more trout.   The students typically have a picnic lunch before returning to their school on their bus.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with mentoring students through the stream activities, please contact Marvin Strauch:  [email protected]

We are always interested in introducing new volunteers to the TIC program.   If you have interest and availability during school hours, don’t hesitate to contact Marvin who will attempt to work you into the schedule.   Volunteers are welcome to participate during a session with one school on one scheduled day, or multiple sessions on multiple days.
