SUMMARY:October Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Oct 20\, 2021 7:00pm Central \nLocation: Via Zoom \nSpeakers: TU staffers Jamie Vaughan\, Chad Kotke and Jake Lemon \nTopic: What are 9 Full-Time TU Great Lakes Staffers doing in Michigan & Wisconsin? \nIn recent years TU has greatly increased staffing in the Great Lakes\, with 9 full-time staff and teams of seasonal employees working on restoration\, education and science initiatives in the region. In this presentation TU staffers Jamie Vaughan\, Chad Kotke and Jake Lemon will provide an overview of current TU staff initiatives in Great Lakes watersheds in Michigan and Wisconsin.  This is an opportunity to hear the “inside story” regarding TU Conservation Initiatives in areas where we fish and where OBTU grants most of its convervation dollars. \n                       TU Great Lakes Staffers Hard at Work \nZoom Meeting Invitation Details: \n\nTopic: OBTU October\, 2021 Chapter Meeting\nTime: October 20\, 2021 07:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada)\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83597461941?pwd=VVVGbkQ3Y1NZUG90RkFySFQ3eVVwQT09\n\n\nOR:\n\n\nConnect via phone:\n\n312 626 6799    Meeting ID: 835 9746 1941    Passcode: 047988 \nNote:  Due to the increased risk associated with the recent Covid-19 surge as well as the awkwardness of complying with the current in door mandatory mask requirements in Illinois as well as our meeting space at the Oak Brook Park District\, the OBTU Board prudently decided to hold this meeting via Zoom.  In addition\, TU National has advised chapters to avoid unecessary in door\, in-person events.   We strongly prefer and hope to resume in-person meetings in the near future.    We know that our members have varied opinions on how to proceed.      We request everyone’s understanding and patience as we deal with this difficult issue.

SUMMARY:OBTU "Grand Reopening" Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We plan to hold a “Grand Reopening” Chapter meeting at our traditional pre-Covid meeting location at the Central Park West Building within the Oak Brook Park District Campus. \nAn outdoor brat cookout with all the trimmings with food planned to be ready by around 6:00pm.   The outdoor chapter meeting will begin at the usual 7:00pm time. \nSpeaker:   Matt Jennings\, Gary Borger Chapter \nTopic:    Overlooked Big Fish Near Home: Fishing the Southern Wisconsin Tributaries  \nMatt’s talk will take us on a virtual trip about an hour North of Chicago to chase some enormous Potadromous Salmonids. There are amazing opportunities to chase stunning Steelhead\, beastly Brown Trout\, and robust reel spinning Salmon fresh out of Lake Michigan within an easy day trip. These fisheries compete favorably with many more famous and distant destinations. The beautiful fish in these nearby waters can be had with much less effort\, time\, planning\, or money. Fishing nearby also means its easier to reap the rewards by going when the conditions are perfect for catching trophy fish. We’ll be drilling down on the newest techniques and changing conditions. Topics about timing the fish runs\, locations for fishing\, rigging for success\, and even crowd avoidance\, will be covered. This should be a timely talk as we all prepare for an outstanding Fall Season!\n\n\n\n\nMore About Matt Jennings:\nMatt Jennings is an angler of over 35 years with a fly. Fishing the tributaries to the Great Lakes has been his passion for all of the 17 years since he was transplanted to the North-shore of Illinois from his home state of Texas. As an innovative fly tyer he is responsible for several regional fly patterns. Matt has stepped up and served many roles in local fly fishing organizations including President of the Gary Borger Chapter of TU. As a conservationist he has been a persistent advocate for a healthier management of the Great Lakes and surrounding waters.  As a fly fishing writer and photographer his work has been included in several sources including Dun Magazine\, and A Tight Loop Magazine.

SUMMARY:Kishwaukee Bass Fishing Outing
DESCRIPTION:Ken Krueger is leading a group bass fishing outing on the Kishwaukee River. \nKen has confirmed a group camp site for the evenings of Fri Aug 27 & Sat August 28th.  Individual sites are also available if we exceed the campground limit of 10 tents in the group site.  The rate is $40 per tent per night.   Ken is also offering some meals at camp.\n\nThe Kishwaukee has many access points including the camp ground and the group site making this a great river to wade or float for the kayakers.\n\nWe will be staying at the same camp ground as last year (Blackhawk Camp ground in Rockford IL\, 6540 Valley Trail Rd\, Rockford\, IL 61109)  The camp ground has changed their rules and now requires everyone to call in advance to make a reservation vs filling out the forms in person at arrival.\nLink to Blackhawk Campground:   http://www.blackhawkvalleycampground.com/\n\nPlease let Ken know promptly if you plan to attend.
